If you visit Corniglia, you will soon realize it's the highest village in Cinque Terre.  Not far from the train station are the 33 flights of stairs or 382 steps to reach in town.  The climb is absolutely worth it, as you will be rewarded with possibly the best gelato ice cream in Cinque Terre.  Alberto Gelateria is a staple for all things treats, snacks and desserts.  Although they are widely known for their basil, lemon and honey flavored gelatos, locals and tourist alike still gravitate towards classics like strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and pistachio.  Their lemon granite infused with vodka is so refreshing, a second round of it is almost obligatory.  Note that there are occasional buses that transport visitors to and from the train station.  But you may want to take the stairs depending on how many ice cream scoops and granites you have devoured.

Notable Mentions

Culture Trip: "Alberto’s is the popular favorite in this town. The friendly owners Alberto and Cristina scoop flavors like miele di Corniglia made with local honey and a tart and creamy lemon. The strawberry milkshake is also an excellent choice here."

Travel + Leisure: "If you’ve made it all the way up Corniglia’s 365 steps, you’ll appreciate a cone of the Cinque Terre’s best gelato at Alberto Gelateria (via Fieschi, 74). The honey flavor is good, but nothing beats the basil drizzled with olive oil."

The NY Times: "For dessert, walk down the street to Alberto Gelateria, an artisanal gelato shop where Corniglia’s own products, like honey and basil, are used to create sensational flavors."
